Apremilast tablets, often sold as Otezla, treat inflammatory conditions like psoriatic arthritis, plaque psoriasis, and oral ulcers from Behçet's disease. They work by reducing inflammation through PDE4 inhibition. UsesApremilast helps adults with active psoriatic arthritis when DMARDs aren't suitable, improving joint pain, swelling, and function. It's also for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis (in adults and kids 6+ weighing at least 44 lbs who need phototherapy or systemic therapy) and mouth ulcers in Behçet's syndrome. DosageStart with a titration: Day 1 is 10 mg morning; increase gradually to 30 mg twice daily (morning and evening, 12 hours apart) by Day 6. Total daily dose is 60 mg; take with or without food. AdministrationSwallow tablets whole—do not crush, split, or chew. Use a starter pack for the first 6 days to ease into full dosing and reduce GI side effects. It may take up to 4 months for symptom improvement. Common Side EffectsIncludes nausea, headache, diarrhea, upper respiratory infections, tension headache, and fatigue. Titration lowers risks of severe nausea or vomiting.
